East Border Region Committee attend Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) Conference in Germany

20 October 2008

Representatives from the East Border Region Committee travelled to Plauen, Germany to attend the Annual Association of European Border Regions Conference.

The AEBR is a long standing Body formed in 1971 with the primary aim of acting for the benefit of all European border and cross-border regions to represent their overall interests to national and international parliaments, and institutions; and to exchange best practice and information between European Cross Border regions.

During the conference President of AERB Mr Lambert van Nistelrooij spoke of the increased important and recognition of cross border co-operation across the European Union Institutions “Commissioner Hubner is very pleased with the progress of cross border co-operation, however it is important that we as an Association stay at the forefront and ensure funds are available for enhanced cross border working post 2013”.

East Border Region delegates found the conference extremely relevant and informative. The East Border Region Committee is hosting the Annual Conference in 2010 which see up on 250 European visitors coming to our region for the 3 day conference. This honour will undoubtedly bring increased investment and tourism potential into our Region.
