9 May 2013

East Border Region in conjunction with the Association of European Border Regions (AEBR) are organising a major conference.

“Cross Border Co-operation Best Practice and Future Opportunities from across the European Union”

Details as follows;

Date:               Thursday 13th June 2013

Time:                9.30am – 4.30pm

 7.00pm Conference Dinner

Venue:             Knightsbrook Hotel, Trim, County Meath

A representative from the European Commission, Committee of the Regions and colleagues who are implementing INTERREG Programmes in other parts of the European Union will be speaking at the event.  The aim of the event is to explore opportunities for INTERREG V, to learn best practice from other border regions across Europe and to showcase best practice from the Ireland/Northern Ireland INTERREG IVA Programme.

The conference will address three main themes in respect of Cross Border Co-operation throughout Europe;

        - Future Opportunities and Challenges for Cross Border Co-operation

        - INTERREG: Promoting Cross Border Economic Development

        - Low Carbon Solutions for a new Cross Border Environment

The first theme is particularly important as we are in the midst of preparing for INTERREG V and speakers will inform the audience of the latest EU thinking in respect of same.  The session moderator is Mr Martin Güillermo AEBR.

The second theme, will explore Economic Development, particularly programmes which assist SME’s and have been supported by the INTERREG programme.  Using case studies the audience will hear from managers of Business Support programmes across the EU.

Mr Declan Meally, Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) will moderate the third session which again will use case studies to highlight how the INTERREG programme is addressing the issue of Low Carbon Solutions for a new cross border environment.

Details of the conference are still being finalised and a conference brochure will be issued in due course.  In the meantime if you would like to register for the event or have any enquiries please contact the East Border Region office on 028 3025 2684 or alternatively contact Aveen McVeigh by email on aveen@eastborderregion.com
