East Border Region hosted its quarterly Members Forum meeting

The Chairman of the East Border Region welcomed Ms Jacqueline King from the Regional Planning Unit, Department of Regional Development to East Border Region's quarterly Forum meeting held on Thursday 19th September 2013 in the Canal Court Hotel, Newry. Ms King spoke about the Framework for Co-operation Spatial Strategies for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Chairman Gerald Mallon welcomed the cross border collaboration between the between Ireland and Northern Ireland governments in producing a strategy document merging current existing spatial strategies, Regional Development Strategy 2035 for Northern Ireland and the National Spatial Strategy 2020 for Ireland.

Action for Biodiversity a project part funded through the European Union's INTERREG IVA Programme launched its website during the meeting. Marcus Malley Co-Chair of the Action for Biodiversity Steering Committee highlighted the projects work to date through the website and Facebook page. The main aim of the project is to deliver a co-ordinated approach to conserving and promoting the biodiversity of our cross-border region, the project works on three key strands: Building capacity, Raising awareness and Biodiversity conservation and enhancement.
