Following on from their successful project implementation under the INTERREG IIIA Programme the East Border Region Tourism Partnership has devised a strategic programme of activity which seeks to develop the Tourism Project throughout the East Border Region - the EBR Tourism Development Plan.

The rationale for the project is to develop the tourism offering in the Region and the aim of the EBR TDP is to "To contribute to the balanced and sustainable development of the cross border region" by protecting the natural and built environment to the benefit of tourists and residents, developing new and strengthening existing EBR tourism products, improving marketing and visitor servicing in the EBR". The Partnership will deliver the project through:

1. Protecting the natural environment,
2. Developing new and strengthening existing tourism products,
3. Improving marketing and visitor servicing

The EBR TDP is scheduled to take place over a three-year period to deliver a number of innovative cross-border, themed based tourism projects. The project builds upon existing cross border product development, visitor servicing and networking undertaken successfully through INTERREG IIIA. This will result in a major positive impact on cross border tourism for the Region. The overall aim is to increase the contribution tourism makes to the economy of the Region and this will be achieved by delivering a co-ordinated programme of actions, which will greatly strengthen the tourism product as a whole.
